Who Are We?

James Byard grew up in Clarksville, Tennessee. Born in 1944, he has witnessed first hand Clarksville’s many changes and expansions. Since 1968, James “Jimmy” Byard has worked in construction. His experience encompasses four decades of sweat and hard work. In 1993 Jimmy Byard formed his own company called Jim’s Backhoe Service with only one rubber-tire backhoe and one employee. Jim’s Backhoe started off digging residential footers, laying pipe and digging ponds. In 1995 Mr. Byard’s son Chad returned from UT Knoxville, where he was studying Civil Engineering. Chad spent many days at the end of a shovel or at the bottom of a ditch. Mr. Byard wanted his son to learn how to do it all from laying pipe to operating equipment. His son Chad would start from the bottom learning to tighten every bolt before working his way up to estimating and now running the day to day operations.

Byard Construction, a Limited Liability Company (LLC), was officially assembled in 1997 and is a local, family owned service company. As our company has grown, we have attracted and gained the expertise of many talented construction professionals. With nearly one hundred employees, we perform primarily commercial/residential projects and public utility work. We have extensive experience in the installation of sanitary sewers, storm sewers, water transmission pipelines, street construction, reinforced box culverts, earth and rock excavation, pump stations, channel and storm drainage improvements, poured-in place concrete, sinkhole remediation, and erosion control installation.
